Robert L. FelgerMarch 22, 1935 ~ April 4, 2017 (age 82)
Robert L. Felger, 82, a resident of rural Fort Wayne and prominent Lake Township farmer, passed away at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Kingston Residence of Fort Wayne following a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Felger was born on March 22, 1935 in Fort Wayne, a son of Charles J. and Helen M. (Byerley) Felger, and spent his formative years on the family farm in Lake Township. He graduated from Arcola High School in 1953, and was a member of its championship basketball team. As a young man he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
A lifelong resident of Lake Township, he was engaged in farming there all of his adult life, and had also been employed as a truck driver for Holland Trucking in Fort Wayne for over 20 years.
A member of St. John's Lutheran Church--Lake Twp., he was an avid Indiana University basketball and Indianapolis Colts football fan. A softhearted animal lover, he had a grand champion steer at the Allen County 4-H fair as a young man. He loved his farm, and was especially fond of John Deere farm equipment.
On September 14, 1990 he was married in Fort Wayne to Marilyn (Gross) Happel. She survives.
Other surviving relatives include his children Teri (Ray) Kasmark of Annapolis, Md., and Steven (Laura) Lehman of Fort Wayne; three step-children Deborah Happel of Fort Wayne, Jeff (Lori) Happel of Huntertown, and Suzanne (Ed) Allen of Lewisville, Tx; two brothers Norman P. Felger and his twin Richard L. (Sharon) Felger, both of Fort Wayne; and three grandchildren Chelsy Kimes, Taylor Kimes, and Madison Lehman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017, at St. John's Lutheran Church--Lake Twp., 7914 W. Cook Rd., Fort Wayne. Pastor Ric Barnes will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., or one hour prior to the service Friday morning.
Interment with military graveside rites will be in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County.
